<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I've been a bit of a busy bee lately buzzing through writing the first draft of my second novel, so I haven't had a ton of time to post. But I have had some fun decorating the dining room for Fall with some of my recent finds.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
It started with wanting to use the Croscill tablecloth and valences I found at the Goodwill Outlet Store a few weeks back. The fabric was so nice and the colors had just the right feel for autumn. The tablecloth was a perfect fit on my round table, while the valence got easily repurposed as a mantle scarf.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The colors seemed to work nicely with some of the Roseville pottery I've uncovered at surprisingly affordable prices lately.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgiZhkmmHinlEnlymWPDTEZ5m7zypGEB7RgILKiP4Keory0lPRCcaYYt4ydzzzdeFWKltbj40NLOR9nK32EZBF13gZ5TC9mlQL7QbcZrb_Dm_-yDTtM7BDoJcf2ARgsHguzOfgrLa649Yc/s1600/MantleRosevillePotteryFallColors.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="298" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgiZhkmmHinlEnlymWPDTEZ5m7zypGEB7RgILKiP4Keory0lPRCcaYYt4ydzzzdeFWKltbj40NLOR9nK32EZBF13gZ5TC9mlQL7QbcZrb_Dm_-yDTtM7BDoJcf2ARgsHguzOfgrLa649Yc/s400/MantleRosevillePotteryFallColors.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Here's a view of the mantle and table together. I went with 70s era Carnival glass for the table setting.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhxTUACFO7tQnyVPe7WAi_Gz19hWuPuxJlrGn3LmfqG_laDF_OnehqLWP7XqCzWhyphenhyphencQf8dB6AzTOXaOFSYSJDzSEZjRqLTFdUFrgG-AeOMb0cIhqb27U-Nl8AEMQNC60pqLWZCHVSqgszE/s1600/MantleTableFallPlaceSettingCarnivalGlass.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhxTUACFO7tQnyVPe7WAi_Gz19hWuPuxJlrGn3LmfqG_laDF_OnehqLWP7XqCzWhyphenhyphencQf8dB6AzTOXaOFSYSJDzSEZjRqLTFdUFrgG-AeOMb0cIhqb27U-Nl8AEMQNC60pqLWZCHVSqgszE/s400/MantleTableFallPlaceSettingCarnivalGlass.jpg" width="297" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
You can see a close up of the table. The plates and the goblets and candlesticks are not the same pattern, but the color is close so I think it works.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgMjlhl9zD0sWpTJpYqqjbfEyHhGsrk7ZwceArJIvI2ARVab0vkGDP3yq0oL-KDDqOY51riK7QNc3gyaQSW6Md3pwLRQaqkVjdRvislvQ1oI4Tf28lGqZ4o2MXR87QHBKXBCSlS2wbZ9Jc/s1600/CarnivalGlassHarvestTable.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="298" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgMjlhl9zD0sWpTJpYqqjbfEyHhGsrk7ZwceArJIvI2ARVab0vkGDP3yq0oL-KDDqOY51riK7QNc3gyaQSW6Md3pwLRQaqkVjdRvislvQ1oI4Tf28lGqZ4o2MXR87QHBKXBCSlS2wbZ9Jc/s400/CarnivalGlassHarvestTable.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The candlesticks are actually a new find for me. They're a Harvest Grape pattern and match the goblets. I got the pair for $5, which seemed to be a pretty good buy.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
The dinner plates are called Anniversary and they're made by Jeanette Glass. I bought these a while ago and I love the many iridescent colors they reflect back.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

Wishing you all the bounty of the harvest at your dinner table and in your thrifting adventures!</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
So, been fishing for any secondhand goodies lately? Was there one that got away? :)</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Me, I've been cranking away on my second book, the sequel to my humorous science fiction book, <i>There Goes the Galaxy</i> (and if you know a sci-fi buff looking for a fun read, I'd really appreciate it if you'd pass the word along!-- <a href="http://www.amazon.com/There-Goes-the-Galaxy-ebook/dp/B005M2RRRA/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1339158436&sr=8-2" target="_blank">folks can see it on Amazon here.</a>) </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
But in spite of all the good hard work, I've also left some time for treasure hunting. And some of the items I found were happy-making. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Like the tinted little boy photo up there who reminds me of Tom Sawyer. I got him at an antique mall in Canonsburg, PA. I imagine he's from the early part of the 1900s.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
More recently, there was this $10 vintage lamp from Rossi's Pop Up Flea Market.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiYMez0Zmtz36KWARKUGb2k85LgpksfTiCqJZETt1Qi9KwPUMZf0rl-Td18OLOsVpm6VZiqjTAV35KPKVjt9Y01473z16z30r5Px46rkPhmCTK70thVoxWgUzLOQ3Xq6MTuMVynIMgMExc/s1600/VintageLampRoses.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em; text-align: center;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiYMez0Zmtz36KWARKUGb2k85LgpksfTiCqJZETt1Qi9KwPUMZf0rl-Td18OLOsVpm6VZiqjTAV35KPKVjt9Y01473z16z30r5Px46rkPhmCTK70thVoxWgUzLOQ3Xq6MTuMVynIMgMExc/s400/VintageLampRoses.jpg" width="297" /></a></div>
<br />
When I asked about it, the seller told me the price and that he would also sell me the table it was sitting on for an additional $10. My answer was no, I didn't need the table, but I needed the lamp because I have Lamp Addiction.<br />
<br />
Now, I've said this a million times on here, so I didn't think anything of it. My Lamp Addiction is fact. But for whatever reason it struck him so funny, he completely cracked up, patted me on the arm, and I heard him chuckling well after I was headed on to other booths.<br />
<br />
See? Lamps are great-- they bring everybody together. :)<br />
<br />
Across Route 30 from the flea market, I hit the Goodwill Outlet. That place never ceases to amaze me. It's such a bizarre experience rooting through those bins for goodies. And the things you'll find! In the pile of textiles below there's a vintage handkerchief, an apron, some doilies, and a number of pieces from Croscill (which is normally so expensive)-- like a table cloth, some pillow shams and a valance. The material alone is worth that.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgzEtiSVVmG9I18X9sTVDXTQ0oDPkoCsSBPUypPTvzqwLbsW6NsRP-tFEhGcCuGXhfwtFVDRUVbW0aiWfe-B4axmapvEzMx9vdr3s5hUXHQAOG7eo7JltTJLuYlXfHRErrLoiBZMRBrvjE/s1600/VintageTextiles.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em; text-align: center;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgzEtiSVVmG9I18X9sTVDXTQ0oDPkoCsSBPUypPTvzqwLbsW6NsRP-tFEhGcCuGXhfwtFVDRUVbW0aiWfe-B4axmapvEzMx9vdr3s5hUXHQAOG7eo7JltTJLuYlXfHRErrLoiBZMRBrvjE/s320/VintageTextiles.jpg" width="238" /></a></div>
<br />
I'd gone in there and hadn't gotten a cart, because I normally only end up choosing a handful of things. But then I found brand new items that were going to work perfectly in my Alice in Wonderland themed kitchen. Like these snack dishes in a card theme... And new in the box!...<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgBKr-olvQ10CD-Cie4rp_-DZM_UILPHz3WrppgikPQQ58ilO0DKe2r9JxMrmcBxjKVmtqDDPETSfe-OsE70y06EcwPfvvCJjpqFHGGnOCao3ayXkKgOpGmgwSauLOTUw6qxZMIXe0bRPQ/s1600/PokerDishes.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgBKr-olvQ10CD-Cie4rp_-DZM_UILPHz3WrppgikPQQ58ilO0DKe2r9JxMrmcBxjKVmtqDDPETSfe-OsE70y06EcwPfvvCJjpqFHGGnOCao3ayXkKgOpGmgwSauLOTUw6qxZMIXe0bRPQ/s320/PokerDishes.jpg" width="238" /></a></div>
<br />
Suddenly things were getting heavy. Then I found the matching glasses..<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiohq8l82741dqL9sLaZ049RsZEPBV11o-v7I8KPjBdzAvsJQYULDoUOkxjN3ILr3YlieBo7ktawGZYO2C_vMWlyiPCIN2vjaaS1D0rDfBBn3Yf41K0Epfb_sOfKxBbKm2QYl66mgtrKgY/s1600/PokerGlassesCardTheme1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="239" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiohq8l82741dqL9sLaZ049RsZEPBV11o-v7I8KPjBdzAvsJQYULDoUOkxjN3ILr3YlieBo7ktawGZYO2C_vMWlyiPCIN2vjaaS1D0rDfBBn3Yf41K0Epfb_sOfKxBbKm2QYl66mgtrKgY/s320/PokerGlassesCardTheme1.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<i><br /></i>
<i>Also</i> in the box...<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEihWwIZ3_6BmCTcro4-_SPGH7VzcV89uaQwh7swJf5Io6DoQahwn4XkTSHndfPPaVEw4G2CnU7msv8vYabvgqN7LnrAuPCvW7UoGhWClm7JZlC_69kS_xkT6QuMb3ttjqG-VWQW4kgfXCg/s1600/PokerGlassesCuteStirrers.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEihWwIZ3_6BmCTcro4-_SPGH7VzcV89uaQwh7swJf5Io6DoQahwn4XkTSHndfPPaVEw4G2CnU7msv8vYabvgqN7LnrAuPCvW7UoGhWClm7JZlC_69kS_xkT6QuMb3ttjqG-VWQW4kgfXCg/s320/PokerGlassesCuteStirrers.jpg" width="238" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I was juggling these items, just about ready to go, when a pleasant fellow shopper I'd been talking to earlier came over with a cart saying to me, "I've never seen anybody do such a thing," or something to that effect. I admit, I was grateful for the cart!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
So, that's me showing you my hand for this game!... Hope you all have good luck in your weekend adventures and you get some good... (here comes the bad pun, brace for it)... deals.</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Ah, the happy Hull and Roseville family o' pottery above... You folks would just not believe the good fortune I had in the past week in finding some of these little lovelies!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I had found the Hull bow style cornucopia on the right below when I was antiquing with my buddy Josette over the Fourth of July holiday...</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEizv18tQMWkUfMlfjXsFwO1R3VTzyH1J7UQ1LcnV0iP4Qz2zLDP1DQB4gwZoaQEU9CFDTJPg0XL7enMfQqStP8TxvnGzpIIY2k-17ivh9LmLtEfj1YQolBLv1PCV7weY0VwPqXoMHjVSLY/s1600/HullBowCornucopiaWaterlilyvase.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEizv18tQMWkUfMlfjXsFwO1R3VTzyH1J7UQ1LcnV0iP4Qz2zLDP1DQB4gwZoaQEU9CFDTJPg0XL7enMfQqStP8TxvnGzpIIY2k-17ivh9LmLtEfj1YQolBLv1PCV7weY0VwPqXoMHjVSLY/s320/HullBowCornucopiaWaterlilyvase.jpg" width="238" /></a></div>
It had been on the floor, of all places-- easily kicked, I feared-- in the first booth of an antique mall. I almost hesitated to look at the price, because bow style Hull pottery is crazy expensive. Only the price reflected a piece that was carelessly placed on the floor and not prized, so I had it in my hands in about three seconds flat.<br />
<br />
But the real treasure chest came along with the Hull waterlily piece on the left above. And that's where a stop at an antique mall I almost had decided not to even check out presented me with more Hull and Roseville options that I even knew what to do with. And at prices, well-- I actually thought I was reading it wrong when I saw the waterlily vase and this blue and pink wildflower vase below were $15 a piece.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj3vE_9f4YspN6pVp3UVHOO3EtduYFVkEvMU2DiAhMdObFLNDZ_d5St_vl1kOAU0axdFWwLH6Mhd3Qz-1Be2f_W0hXoXmpPWE-PmT8KBZ3wCH6TNMSmdrJQ-EupX7G18s61UR3094CGvX8/s1600/HullWildflowerVase.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj3vE_9f4YspN6pVp3UVHOO3EtduYFVkEvMU2DiAhMdObFLNDZ_d5St_vl1kOAU0axdFWwLH6Mhd3Qz-1Be2f_W0hXoXmpPWE-PmT8KBZ3wCH6TNMSmdrJQ-EupX7G18s61UR3094CGvX8/s320/HullWildflowerVase.jpg" width="238" /></a></div>
$150, I figured. $15, not so much. Then there was this gorgeous Roseville bleeding heart vase...<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhGLCF4oYkOEJ3If_x2S6XlLKnSEH0BpR_NjF7rmAqFB7AWpP13gJldBdg-3UbLwEGZDNwDs23zcJAlCTuO4-gzsYYs6jYCGirMMHToRgwXlGNAPPdWGEiCnafZUu_ayjMkQVS4vkkfcqY/s1600/RosevilleBleedingHeartVase.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhGLCF4oYkOEJ3If_x2S6XlLKnSEH0BpR_NjF7rmAqFB7AWpP13gJldBdg-3UbLwEGZDNwDs23zcJAlCTuO4-gzsYYs6jYCGirMMHToRgwXlGNAPPdWGEiCnafZUu_ayjMkQVS4vkkfcqY/s320/RosevilleBleedingHeartVase.jpg" width="238" /></a></div>
Admittedly, this one has a repair on the top, but the price more than reflected that. Plus, where it sits, no one but an NBA player would ever see. I just loved the look of it.<br />
<br />
I also got this (blurry, sorry) other Roseville piece. This one's in perfect condition.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhJdyHN-opaPFAfSASXwvYscPNUIIh_bLvqSx9UE5vXBr6XnOHaKUnszjDw3tL8w6lfBYVvz1sJAVGrI4_dHD2R_uUZKUO_FuTjCnO-bGbLantqAluEiB6H1YuXvFESI0jaElrGTE7bN9k/s1600/RosevilleMagnoliavase.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhJdyHN-opaPFAfSASXwvYscPNUIIh_bLvqSx9UE5vXBr6XnOHaKUnszjDw3tL8w6lfBYVvz1sJAVGrI4_dHD2R_uUZKUO_FuTjCnO-bGbLantqAluEiB6H1YuXvFESI0jaElrGTE7bN9k/s320/RosevilleMagnoliavase.jpg" width="238" /></a></div>
Anyway, I walked away with four pieces in a cardboard box, feeling like I was Indiana Jones having just found some amazing ancient temple of treasure. There were even others, but I didn't care for the look of them so much. It was very strange to be able to pick and choose of items I normally can't touch with a ten-foot barge pole.<br />
<br />
Here's wishing you all find the coming weekend full of favorite things, friends, family, food and even some fun finds. Cheers!<br />

You know, I love books on collecting and for the things I do amass I find I peruse those collectors' books like I'm pre-shopping. "Oh, if I found <i>that</i> one some day, it would be nice." And interestingly, I have been able to get some of the pieces I scoped out, and at thrifty prices.<br />
<br />
This past weekend, I found one I never, ever imagined finding-- a Roseville Foxglove bowl from the Salvation Army Thrift Store.<br />
<br />
I had seen this in my Roseville book with no hope of ever owning it myself due to Roseville's steep prices. But on Saturday, the thrift store came through for me, with a piece that is now a real star in my collection of Ohio pottery pieces.<br />
<br />
Nice, too, the soft mint green and pink happen to perfectly match my diningroom. :)<br />
<br />
So, that was the real treasure for me this week. Now that the humidity and high temps have swept in, my mind is just on staying cool. Alice below has been as affectionate and lazy as if she were a character in a Tennessee Williams play. :)<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjeSp8bXVpCXZP5XfdI3XQRr8UTmrPzHCjfnrBDQxf8BbjdCGC0tI38ntzrSyCwE0DzB1sW6PZzuOw07fsgu3k2qKESbZzYBkgrTtV-kCiIiTONIsz6QcSz4yyyuwWSMR6UivVFn4iP5FE/s1600/AliceCatOneEyeOpen.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjeSp8bXVpCXZP5XfdI3XQRr8UTmrPzHCjfnrBDQxf8BbjdCGC0tI38ntzrSyCwE0DzB1sW6PZzuOw07fsgu3k2qKESbZzYBkgrTtV-kCiIiTONIsz6QcSz4yyyuwWSMR6UivVFn4iP5FE/s320/AliceCatOneEyeOpen.jpg" width="238" /></a></div>
(And yes, you COULD scratch the fluffy belly pictured there. She doesn't mind at all. She's shameless.)<br />
<br />
Well, hope you all are able to keep cool and find some fun this coming weekend. TGIF to you!Jenn Thorsonhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12899242535971792424noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5064894231149440617.post-36681215063263761472012-06-22T09:04:00.003-07:002012-06-22T09:04:56.917-07:00Pretty as a Picture<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I haven't had a ton of time to post this week, but I did want to share with you all my fave find of an excursion into the hills and fields of Western Pennsylvania, where I popped by an antique mall in Apollo, PA. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I had seen this before at the mall called <i>We Miss Back When</i>. But thought it was a print. It turns out it's a painting, and it was not only a good price, but it was 15% off. Which made it about $29.00 plus tax.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The artist's name is M. Giordano, and a little online research turned up a few other paintings-- one a tree-lined road, another an Italian marketplace scene. But a little research shows that M. Giordano didn't come up with the original idea for this painting-- this is a close copy of an existing painting from the Victorian era called "La Madonnina" (Little Mother) by an artist named Roberto Ferruzzi. It's also called "Madonna of the Streets." </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Interestingly, though the original painting is popularly considered to be of Jesus and Mary, it was in fact painting of a young Italian girl who was caring for her baby brother. She was only eleven when the portrait was done. (<a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Madonnina_(painting)" target="_blank">You can read more about that here on Wikipedia</a>.)</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I love the colors and the sweetness of both subjects' faces. There's a real Pre-Raphaelite wistfulness about it all and the artist did a bang-up job on capturing the original.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjs1ZIPEIQIRA7YuRImlq5LVgMvCuMJzB3I0KPsF03PHD9IgshMyv0SDjFTaLL_9Wls3hxw_74FW-dphZZ94bIwpAHxDtmgJCvSP0Le9J6yyuNT4K4MI2TrJShLICHMfzgEtUxEOM-VZAo/s1600/Madonninareproclose.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjs1ZIPEIQIRA7YuRImlq5LVgMvCuMJzB3I0KPsF03PHD9IgshMyv0SDjFTaLL_9Wls3hxw_74FW-dphZZ94bIwpAHxDtmgJCvSP0Le9J6yyuNT4K4MI2TrJShLICHMfzgEtUxEOM-VZAo/s320/Madonninareproclose.jpg" width="317" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The painting now hangs in my entryway, along with a couple of other Victorian-styled paintings.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Well, hope the weekend ahead of you all is picture-perfect! I will talk to you next week.</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Okay, maybe a million happy finds is a SLIGHT exaggeration. But a trip down Route 30, with my thrifting buddy Scoobie and her awesome brother Jose, well, between the three of us, there was one overflowing trunk of treasure by the end of our travels!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
It all started at the Goodwill Outlet Store in North Versailles and on to the Good Samaritan thrift store across the highway. Between the two places I came away with these fun finds...</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The bag at left is for the 50th anniversary of Maurice Sendak/Where the Wild Things Are. He died quite recently, so it was surprising to find this useful tote celebrating his work.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjytC0XFToIvLqShjXCQYH2_3XXy_PU7uka4TN7mTkrXFWTrfjbQwaX5JYruWRFHg8XiIeBnYdBZIQp3Cs9Tx9suPA0hKD3LdYrnu0zN0gd8JpA3JoK68XwHxShyphenhyphenr2BiTiNsUaGINGnEsY/s1600/WonderlandFrameOldPhotoSendakBagChenille.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="239" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjytC0XFToIvLqShjXCQYH2_3XXy_PU7uka4TN7mTkrXFWTrfjbQwaX5JYruWRFHg8XiIeBnYdBZIQp3Cs9Tx9suPA0hKD3LdYrnu0zN0gd8JpA3JoK68XwHxShyphenhyphenr2BiTiNsUaGINGnEsY/s320/WonderlandFrameOldPhotoSendakBagChenille.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Also at the Goodwill, I got this adorable Disney Alice in Wonderland photo frame. Regular readers know my fondness for the book, and that I have a quietly Alice-themed kitchen. So I was quite excited about this find...</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgOAyvEg3ZdFAvQ2RX6XAt-7ORyeQ6vobj-A3eC-O5Twwi9WgguBsQ3I4OD6WomPxPlf0gNJkBSPypHAW69O65x69lI_W7AhBV1aHbUFfYwV81q3HWGoLcuYx3XxKo0m_r1Gzht_E76Ors/s1600/AliceinWonderlandFrame.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="245" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgOAyvEg3ZdFAvQ2RX6XAt-7ORyeQ6vobj-A3eC-O5Twwi9WgguBsQ3I4OD6WomPxPlf0gNJkBSPypHAW69O65x69lI_W7AhBV1aHbUFfYwV81q3HWGoLcuYx3XxKo0m_r1Gzht_E76Ors/s320/AliceinWonderlandFrame.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
At the Good Samaritan, I couldn't resist this large old photo of a boy and girl by the seaside. Very dramatic and delightfully sappy... It's in an old frame already-- though not it's original one-- so I think instead of the weird matting that doesn't fit well around it, I'll just mount it on a decorative acid-free paper backing in the frame it came in. (Apologies the photo is blurry. My regular camera has died and I'm using my phone camera.)</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiC1aWcxjNoLB3JToiNO_gTSaQIBjHlL1oPl1_8jq1rrZc9zT99jfgXxgGMv3e-pWIQPCuq70gekuNBTdQzVS7l-UbRMwzTiNtaa7c1z5VBVjH0e_xoevxYhgdNX_Dd_ZXuIg0UabWKElA/s1600/Littlegirlandboyoldphoto.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="231" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiC1aWcxjNoLB3JToiNO_gTSaQIBjHlL1oPl1_8jq1rrZc9zT99jfgXxgGMv3e-pWIQPCuq70gekuNBTdQzVS7l-UbRMwzTiNtaa7c1z5VBVjH0e_xoevxYhgdNX_Dd_ZXuIg0UabWKElA/s320/Littlegirlandboyoldphoto.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
At the Goodwill in Irwin, I was reunited with an old friend. I knew this fellow as "Zippy Monkey," and he's a toy like one my aunt had. I think he's from the '60s-- I still need to look him up. I have fond memories, though, of cuddling up this monkey when visiting at my grandmother's house as a wee lass. And at a price of $5, I couldn't part with the cheerful chimp. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEizDOn6CtPss7mDid3UQEuAJcyCdsbaOVYbuGo-b-417z9A1WFkDUSUiJC9IKPXp2fT12cI0YtFT576gfZp1tdngHZm5a6uUfRH63VyoU6PSeniVu7C0CKaTjiQYQ16hCY942zpStAW83w/s1600/ZippyMonkey.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEizDOn6CtPss7mDid3UQEuAJcyCdsbaOVYbuGo-b-417z9A1WFkDUSUiJC9IKPXp2fT12cI0YtFT576gfZp1tdngHZm5a6uUfRH63VyoU6PSeniVu7C0CKaTjiQYQ16hCY942zpStAW83w/s320/ZippyMonkey.jpg" width="239" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
At that same Goodwill, I got the tiny purple teacup shown center below, and I figure I'll also show you the porcelain lady figurine (she's actually a box) that I'd found at the Monroeville Goodwill a couple of weeks ago. I thought she was a nice addition to my curio cabinet.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj0sdez4135DKeHQFVcBgCMerC198SoTmudIUKxPrMcBuhrszzph_niBRdVgDbeULXJkyIUvb75i0kqEs-jtcSOWHKRw1hcYuIa0zMus3t5uSpQ4VTN4hwsISRgTaLZUzW05hXd4J7pBgc/s1600/LadyPorcelainBoxTeacup.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj0sdez4135DKeHQFVcBgCMerC198SoTmudIUKxPrMcBuhrszzph_niBRdVgDbeULXJkyIUvb75i0kqEs-jtcSOWHKRw1hcYuIa0zMus3t5uSpQ4VTN4hwsISRgTaLZUzW05hXd4J7pBgc/s320/LadyPorcelainBoxTeacup.jpg" style="cursor: move;" width="239" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
At Graham's Antique Mall, I happened upon this Swift Peanut Butter glass of the Cowardly Lion. You might recall I've found a few different ones of this series recently, but didn't have the Lion.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhMWRNO9PrvQByUBtYRpQWYs7AdSo8HNYG09FxiBCyZ2h0xDM7g7SX504o_H7ff9ee8JuQuspvwx0B-bqIc7ZeXbyKNolQ6Lv16kKAjzrr9YcHAO0GnNhjR3-l6TlCOd6V4GMw6NTKMBZ4/s1600/CowardlyLionPeanutButterGlass.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhMWRNO9PrvQByUBtYRpQWYs7AdSo8HNYG09FxiBCyZ2h0xDM7g7SX504o_H7ff9ee8JuQuspvwx0B-bqIc7ZeXbyKNolQ6Lv16kKAjzrr9YcHAO0GnNhjR3-l6TlCOd6V4GMw6NTKMBZ4/s320/CowardlyLionPeanutButterGlass.jpg" style="cursor: move;" width="246" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
And then would you believe on the way back, the very, very last stop on our journey, a Salvation Army thrift store we almost didn't stop at because we were all so tired, I uncovered the remaining treasures of the post. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
My favorite being this beautiful Hull vase in pastels for just $9.99-- with no cracks, chips or anything!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjUXGqGTZXykwdvWcsRuzY3klz_fY3WIqKrHL1ePL2XUv96jYL1bTBKWpvLBoUtx-acv0HsgBTxEcg5wqK-VGfC-vt9dJOLCoBiMuPShi3lnx982mjHi7WRLJtdhDWA0-gBW8sKOE_FVCQ/s1600/HullVasePastels.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjUXGqGTZXykwdvWcsRuzY3klz_fY3WIqKrHL1ePL2XUv96jYL1bTBKWpvLBoUtx-acv0HsgBTxEcg5wqK-VGfC-vt9dJOLCoBiMuPShi3lnx982mjHi7WRLJtdhDWA0-gBW8sKOE_FVCQ/s320/HullVasePastels.jpg" width="239" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I snagged this pretty lusterware bowl with violets transfered on it...</div>

So it was a huge, huge day in the world of thrifty finds last Saturday. I admit, I needed Sunday to recover from the thrill of it all!</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Sending you all good vibes for fun finds this week, if that's what you're into. And I will talk to you next week, depending on what excitement the next few days hold. Take care!</div>

PS- I just learned the monkey's real name is "Mr. Bim." "Zippy" was apparently a very similar monkey in red overalls, based on a live monkey who had his own TV show. I'm now not sure whether my aunt had a real Zippy, or a Mr. Bim who everyone just called Zippy. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">

This monkey business has gotten complex! :) You can see both on the page of this vintage toy shop: <a href="http://www.timewarptoys.com/toptoys.htm">http://www.timewarptoys.com/toptoys.htm</a></div>Jenn Thorsonhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12899242535971792424noreply@blogger.com14tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5064894231149440617.post-33651834960944610572012-06-01T05:59:00.003-07:002012-06-01T05:59:44.252-07:00The Lady of Shallot in Gummy Candy Stained "Glass"?!<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
I ran across this last week in e-talking to the artist-- Kimberly Chapman-- who developed the book above, and I thought you all would find it fascinating, too.<br />
<br />
Kimberly creates stained-glass look art out of...<br />
<br />
Wait for it...<br />
<i><br /></i><br />
<i>Gummy candy.</i><br />
<br />
<i>I KNOW</i>, astounding, right? Look at this close-up of her Lady of Shallot...<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjt9rA0qpuV0bnEMhSu_0SlqZuwERJtOGYaxHXwI375ClcJeP19-3-D-cuIuwQ_ylGed-bd71wTITBLI2ho1wtKsXC7wSpFruVH_zvSQ64Zdna2qj-LgeDEs-7CXQWCTYCzmJzIb_dAfqQ/s1600/LadyofShallotGummyClose.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjt9rA0qpuV0bnEMhSu_0SlqZuwERJtOGYaxHXwI375ClcJeP19-3-D-cuIuwQ_ylGed-bd71wTITBLI2ho1wtKsXC7wSpFruVH_zvSQ64Zdna2qj-LgeDEs-7CXQWCTYCzmJzIb_dAfqQ/s1600/LadyofShallotGummyClose.jpg" /></a></div>
<br />
Blew me away. I'd be delighted to see a stained glass window like this, let alone to learn it's a clever confection.<br />
<br />
Anyway, Kimberly has a book explaining how to go about these sorts of projects, so I thought I would pass the information on to you clever, crafty readers. Her website is here: <a href="http://www.eat-the-evidence.com/gummy/" target="_blank">http://www.eat-the-evidence.com/gummy/</a><br />
<br />
She's got some other interesting things on her site, too, like art, and actual stained glass projects. There are some droolworthy Tiffany-type lamps she's done. (And you all know my addiction to lamps!)<br />
<br />
Hope everyone has a sweet weekend ahead of them!<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I do believe I have the weather to thank. Because this past Saturday was the first one in many years I can think of where the day of the Regent Square Neighborhood yard sale had no threat of rain.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
As a result, everyone thinking about selling their unneeded items, and making a few bucks, DID. And everyone looking for goodies-- and there were a ton of us-- were walking around the sun-dappled streets carrying armfuls of treasures.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Seriously-- every person I saw walking down the street appeared to be carrying bags of purchases. And I find it amazing because I, too, found so many good things at great prices it seems impossible there was enough to go around.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
One of my favorite items was this ten inch tall McCoy butterfly pattern vase. I had seen it in my McCoy book a while back and I loved the shape. It was one I definitely thought if I ran across, I would be interested in having. And there it was, unpriced, on a long table.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiBTyrMtUnirQr8_GSw0wh_-Toc8JmLzOtrbkNBiCb2gxnxDA3EajBPBGwlYmYtQDhLwnU3AR1JIFY01RitHcXZHbiNcndXRbqyyqAWzf2F3IpQ_srNlFyoxINcpWzgrPzrjer5CocSFG4/s1600/McCoyButterflyVase.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiBTyrMtUnirQr8_GSw0wh_-Toc8JmLzOtrbkNBiCb2gxnxDA3EajBPBGwlYmYtQDhLwnU3AR1JIFY01RitHcXZHbiNcndXRbqyyqAWzf2F3IpQ_srNlFyoxINcpWzgrPzrjer5CocSFG4/s320/McCoyButterflyVase.jpg" width="238" /></a></div>
I enquired, imagining it would be at least $20, considering its size and great shape. And do you know what the response was?<br />
<br />
"Oh... a dollar."<br />
<br />
ACK! I had my money out in a flash.<br />
<br />
At another house, I found this (somewhat blurry, sorry) pink swan McCoy vase. It was at a somewhat pricier (snicker) $3.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgQCBAaDhSBSBzTTVb4g6ywUNN__dlf9pqnNTDJtnZsc3FjYpwjGnPSZ7a54tYl9CtUPxYZieWu49PJTYWQA3cEIQYma_PHqZHZYLGY7GgU3CFVJ4YiIeEj1thYEyczaMb5TMQ9zXhs4ak/s1600/McCoySwanVase.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgQCBAaDhSBSBzTTVb4g6ywUNN__dlf9pqnNTDJtnZsc3FjYpwjGnPSZ7a54tYl9CtUPxYZieWu49PJTYWQA3cEIQYma_PHqZHZYLGY7GgU3CFVJ4YiIeEj1thYEyczaMb5TMQ9zXhs4ak/s320/McCoySwanVase.jpg" width="238" /></a></div>
And at yet another stop, I got this cute USA pottery wallpocket for $3, as well.<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjhBl0MCAtjQhz7GuVRj3UBO3HWpBgpO96L3eg4Lm_QYg6kaFWQU0AWXDdQgjH9UDfJ3KBpX6HDtGHLNjVB1EhiEFgjl7Dz__JnvJdLo7Tk8s5avS-Pol_AchZ3wdROqAxVl1Fv9_Yayys/s1600/USAPotteryWallPocket.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjhBl0MCAtjQhz7GuVRj3UBO3HWpBgpO96L3eg4Lm_QYg6kaFWQU0AWXDdQgjH9UDfJ3KBpX6HDtGHLNjVB1EhiEFgjl7Dz__JnvJdLo7Tk8s5avS-Pol_AchZ3wdROqAxVl1Fv9_Yayys/s320/USAPotteryWallPocket.jpg" width="290" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
I got two stained glass heart suncatchers I want to use in my kitchen windows... Here's the purple one...</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgrFByHkYwyb2OGpXy1hWsU_qUr0hr86bXOJ8_Ot_t4fCMF-kI0EETE9S6OOXQ6v-ePA6-UtRZZ6U4BTlqeCqJUr7myZRqM7Smq82PVcfWggvCCTNX6oxz9BVUD2ZmHCh-hN3rr9JIfbMA/s1600/SuncatcherHeartPurple.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgrFByHkYwyb2OGpXy1hWsU_qUr0hr86bXOJ8_Ot_t4fCMF-kI0EETE9S6OOXQ6v-ePA6-UtRZZ6U4BTlqeCqJUr7myZRqM7Smq82PVcfWggvCCTNX6oxz9BVUD2ZmHCh-hN3rr9JIfbMA/s320/SuncatcherHeartPurple.jpg" width="238" /></a></div>
And the red, blue and purple...<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEii8nTy3rPu19pvsaSn15c-pmfvl0RidxzejwkdPgAxNyKg5DTIzI5pPkSsWWfIQi5lvNA1G906mIBUAiOfZKUf8Ykl8l5b1IRTNAl5HWB49WuszlM1AUU3VYmXY6yWP_otEKUE3PbaoSQ/s1600/SuncatcherHeartRed.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEii8nTy3rPu19pvsaSn15c-pmfvl0RidxzejwkdPgAxNyKg5DTIzI5pPkSsWWfIQi5lvNA1G906mIBUAiOfZKUf8Ykl8l5b1IRTNAl5HWB49WuszlM1AUU3VYmXY6yWP_otEKUE3PbaoSQ/s320/SuncatcherHeartRed.jpg" width="238" /></a></div>
I snagged this tapestry of the Tower of London for $3, too. I think it might make a nice pillow.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhpW-6wLHdTsLRH8monvM5AT3PyeOPCBjBABbP7elI3vUGkrLIai-vYHjDV3Z1o7DeWNKhwgDCqXft7mP8jB7d8RWrDAv0zqOx94OdMiz2S1OG159U6er6VuN69hbR7Onrq8B94gxa_rA8/s1600/TowerofLondonTapestry.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhpW-6wLHdTsLRH8monvM5AT3PyeOPCBjBABbP7elI3vUGkrLIai-vYHjDV3Z1o7DeWNKhwgDCqXft7mP8jB7d8RWrDAv0zqOx94OdMiz2S1OG159U6er6VuN69hbR7Onrq8B94gxa_rA8/s320/TowerofLondonTapestry.jpg" width="303" /></a></div>
I nabbed this Victorian transferware bowl with nymphs on it in a far corner of the sale area. They actually seemed surprised I even wanted it...<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjW7-RlVGbvSB_XYlogdaOICsO7WDBjOELNH5B-djK1j9OC1J7Lt3xkE6z_Z7uFTCwhR8J8NrpeysmmtHvCdm01lZeAfzTLaZcHpMUItsiTo5QRMM8I8RPAbfvsnnqFApRwchIdKtqC8tg/s1600/TurquoiseBowlTransferwareNymphs.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="277" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjW7-RlVGbvSB_XYlogdaOICsO7WDBjOELNH5B-djK1j9OC1J7Lt3xkE6z_Z7uFTCwhR8J8NrpeysmmtHvCdm01lZeAfzTLaZcHpMUItsiTo5QRMM8I8RPAbfvsnnqFApRwchIdKtqC8tg/s320/TurquoiseBowlTransferwareNymphs.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
I got this pretty vintage floral tablecloth for $1, and aside from being wrinkled, it's in great condition...<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgEq1llVSMz8H1-aWQa8fpQCviyp8ZPeUlvvm5h_G4vp1r8uhs7rLSxiXWjenklId2zdEq2SJZNaL2TQ9xuD3qPcURYu7yLST4ZQdGO9iMsevmnusxWpdLw09CxUsNt3zsFezZ0bPRplA0/s1600/VintageTablecloth.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="239" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgEq1llVSMz8H1-aWQa8fpQCviyp8ZPeUlvvm5h_G4vp1r8uhs7rLSxiXWjenklId2zdEq2SJZNaL2TQ9xuD3qPcURYu7yLST4ZQdGO9iMsevmnusxWpdLw09CxUsNt3zsFezZ0bPRplA0/s320/VintageTablecloth.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
This vintage teacup with gold leafing was fifty cents. It was the lady's grandmother's, she said.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjRDO3M8_kJBzXVskgfeIRpR235fGYQK9W9QPs4ox-bpsCT-sAG_4ymUG3Up26cagATtXeVz0lY2zki2QX9uvtCMxPsVTBq-e1x_3qtlkJyOEQvn0Nhj5Ks7BJyNlhihLpE9joBtzaQflQ/s1600/VintageTeacupromanticscene.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjRDO3M8_kJBzXVskgfeIRpR235fGYQK9W9QPs4ox-bpsCT-sAG_4ymUG3Up26cagATtXeVz0lY2zki2QX9uvtCMxPsVTBq-e1x_3qtlkJyOEQvn0Nhj5Ks7BJyNlhihLpE9joBtzaQflQ/s320/VintageTeacupromanticscene.jpg" width="287" /></a></div>
And I couldn't go to a sale like this without coming away with a weird vintage lamp. This one is in harlequin colors that look terrific in my sort of bohemian bedroom. It works and has all its crystals. I paid $5 for it.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEitFlju-Lh8eVC0ZzNXMNqzJesIX5_xupXPY02szLRXAzUPgYoMLeOciEDtYM_rDMuhK2Mg65VF-Au0u5Qz1MfI2iWRhBBDk0lN-ErOSEjTWT-pSgyA0dF34DNqhp-VPJanAY7Du1yQuVs/s1600/WeirdVintageLampColors.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEitFlju-Lh8eVC0ZzNXMNqzJesIX5_xupXPY02szLRXAzUPgYoMLeOciEDtYM_rDMuhK2Mg65VF-Au0u5Qz1MfI2iWRhBBDk0lN-ErOSEjTWT-pSgyA0dF34DNqhp-VPJanAY7Du1yQuVs/s320/WeirdVintageLampColors.jpg" width="238" /></a></div>
So that's what I got up to this past weekend. I don't know how many miles I walked in total. Someday I'll have to do the sale while wearing a pedometer and find out for sure. The legs certainly knew it had shopped for distance the next day, but with treasures like these, it felt all worthwhile.<br />
<br />
Hope you all have a bountiful, joyous Memorial Day weekend.Jenn Thorsonhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12899242535971792424noreply@blogger.com11tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5064894231149440617.post-69883088656538836732012-05-15T07:12:00.001-07:002012-05-15T07:12:54.343-07:00Treasure Box Tuesday: Roses, Glasses and Goodies<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

It's been a crazy few weeks for me. I've had to put in many extra hours at work for projects, as well as taking care of cat with a respiratory infection (Harry's doing better, happily) and so many other things, would you believe I didn't realize how many weeks it had been since I posted? (?!)</div>

<div style="text-align: left;">
So the thrifted and fleamarket finds I'll show you today are a collection of a bunch of weeks put together. All the items have found their right spot in my house. This was a Victorian transferware bowl I found at the Goodwill in Irwin a while back. </div>

I loved the colors-- perfect for the curio cabinet in my diningroom!<br />
<br />
At the L&L Fleatique on Route 30, I got this marvelous Hull vase with a waterlily on it. I love the soft pastels and matte finish.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh19OwE_3wFXGs2vnNiD_MBf0uQECvW4-phJmid_AejxRZljrrfN3AAV9K0fPGAb7RmKLwoNNfRhSj19m_c2BUzO_y_NWHTfA1rcC1RzJ16G0Vd_RP3PZLCktdr0KluAw-GSjpBUgg_ulk/s1600/WaterLilyHullVase.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh19OwE_3wFXGs2vnNiD_MBf0uQECvW4-phJmid_AejxRZljrrfN3AAV9K0fPGAb7RmKLwoNNfRhSj19m_c2BUzO_y_NWHTfA1rcC1RzJ16G0Vd_RP3PZLCktdr0KluAw-GSjpBUgg_ulk/s320/WaterLilyHullVase.jpg" width="299" /></a></div>
This sits on top of the aforementioned curio, next to THIS transferware vase from Austria...<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I got that at Junk for Joy in Jeannette, PA. Love it! It's quite tall, too, so it makes a nice statement.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
At the Fleatique Too in Ligonier, my shopping buddy Scoobie spied these two Wizard of Oz drinking glasses...</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I had gotten one from Junk for Joy a while back, of Dorothy, and these belong to one of three different sets put out by Swift Peanut Butter in the 50s and 60s. They look really cute in my kitchen and match the colors of my Fiestaware.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
My favorite piece of the past few weeks has been this Roseville console bowl. It was a price I could actually afford because someone had glued a styrofoam flower frog in the center of it to hold their centerpieces...</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgGykOYU7CTqfaNjvzmvUHpSAPbP5pITunI3Bbaghz50sZoQaJMnEyR4ECflbnMokX_GLkPyPNpOuZkvIKcLsgC02RSCe-kM8_zgYX2F3ISlg_ISV0bZz0LddbI5PrCJOixYEVsFSLATIk/s1600/RosevilleConsoleBowl.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="167" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgGykOYU7CTqfaNjvzmvUHpSAPbP5pITunI3Bbaghz50sZoQaJMnEyR4ECflbnMokX_GLkPyPNpOuZkvIKcLsgC02RSCe-kM8_zgYX2F3ISlg_ISV0bZz0LddbI5PrCJOixYEVsFSLATIk/s320/RosevilleConsoleBowl.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I had an inkling that antique glue might not be too hard to get off there without damaging the bowl. And with some careful tugging, some very hot soaking water and a little Palmolive, the whole thing came out bit by bit. Suddenly a good buy had turned great!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Lastly, but probably less excitingly, I picked up a whole bunch of file folders and hanging folders in pinks, purples and aquas. This was from the Goodwill Outlet, where tons of them were just tossed in the bins.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhZXkoD6h9pt9oXleOUddgCuOMV6fhwT3Ss0y4ur0sxBq3rPcW_soNADWnIMUWbNH71uxm1biqMRYNAANLZn-mw54j_3s4Yu-JAQAcODufdiKD9C0A37BoJ52Jd2BBVKsGHy1OHw7HECWY/s1600/ColoredFileFolders.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="231" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhZXkoD6h9pt9oXleOUddgCuOMV6fhwT3Ss0y4ur0sxBq3rPcW_soNADWnIMUWbNH71uxm1biqMRYNAANLZn-mw54j_3s4Yu-JAQAcODufdiKD9C0A37BoJ52Jd2BBVKsGHy1OHw7HECWY/s320/ColoredFileFolders.jpg" style="cursor: move;" width="320" /></a></div>
So, that's it for today's Treasure Box. We have our neighborhood yard sale this weekend, so I hope to have some fun finds to share with you next week, too!<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
A hoppy, slightly-early Easter to you, my friends! As a big fan of both Spring and pastels, I couldn't resist doing a small Easter display in my diningroom. That's a thrifted Shabby Chic table cloth I'm using as a mantle scarf at the moment.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgGDDqZaiWQJnGcX8AMWQabyrlFaMyEXNQP_j62wUfxLVKmrWoFO19edz7pp4HH5sl18zpIs0sYIxR0zwRdWNZStiA9TlCxfIG6hUP9hS20-3eAdAP-wUw-SLtIva_jAcgLVdg5WgU4_FQ/s1600/EasterMantlePastels.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgGDDqZaiWQJnGcX8AMWQabyrlFaMyEXNQP_j62wUfxLVKmrWoFO19edz7pp4HH5sl18zpIs0sYIxR0zwRdWNZStiA9TlCxfIG6hUP9hS20-3eAdAP-wUw-SLtIva_jAcgLVdg5WgU4_FQ/s320/EasterMantlePastels.jpg" width="239" /></a></div>
<br />
I found this sugary-looking Easter sign at Marshall's several months ago and just had to snag it. It looks a bit like it's made of Peeps! (I suspect it would not be tasty, though. Sorry.)<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Easter also gave me an excuse to bring out a few of my Hull vases. This one in particular has always had an eggly vibe, so there seemed no better time than now to feature it...</div>

<br />
Here you can see the table itself. The pink tablecloth was thrifted. The placemats were off-season discount from Tuesday Morning. The candelabra was a thrifted find that I tarted up with some pearly pink paint, and the plates are mostly Hazel Atlas Platonite from the 50s.<br />
<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I bought my home over 10 years ago, yet it was only this past week that I finally corrected something that had been nagging me all that time... I painted the master bedroom a color I actually <i>like</i>.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Originally, it was yellow. Oh, so <i>very</i> yellow. And I'd left it because initially there were so many other, more pressing things to deal with when I'd moved in. And the yellow went well-enough with my belongings. But then time marched on. And life happened. And to be honest, I don't really care for yellow that much. I just don't find it soothing. And soothing is really what I wanted in a bedroom.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
So I finally got my act in gear and busted out some lavender paint. (Eddie Bauer's Craftsman Bungalow "Globe Thistle" shade, for anyone who was wondering. Available at Lowe's. I like the colors from that Eddie Bauer collection because it really does seem to work well in an older home to set a tone.)</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Anyway, the updated wall coloring gave me an excuse to frame some decorative old sheet music I'd been holding onto. This is on my bedroom door...</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Here's the view from the doorway... The standing wardrobe is an Ikea piece from a while back that I'd stenciled with roses...</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Here's the left wall, on top of my dresser (sorry it's blurry, I had to do this with my camera phone as my regular camera is being temperamental.) The little ballerina doll there on the left was my mother's. The brush dolls next to it came from my great-aunt's home. I love the big dramatic expression of the face of the silent film actress on the central sheet music.</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
Just another little display here along with some of my art deco prints. The framed photos you might notice there are of Gregory Peck. I thought he was a handsome addition to the decor. :)<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
This is my far wall where there had once been a fireplace. I love coming up the stairs to this floor, peering into the room and seeing lavender instead of yellow on this wall. It's such a relief.</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
A close-up of the central focal point here. I got this matted vintage photograph years ago in an antique store in Cape May on vacation. She <i>just</i> fit in the frame, which is actually a shadowbox to display t-shirts I found at Michael's. It felt very lucky!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj6udQrXfSY0UZQI7TEGXe8wn08YcoXY-AfaqqmATFYnXjOlHSPaCMIhWS91-whAhwoDqIoHiXpdhg7KxO9NQFP848VeOXn8hdD2bNuoXFAWvq7M_4nNOMmkVBL69kBLDdBGgfS5Xy8Lls/s1600/DiamondVictorianLadyClose.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj6udQrXfSY0UZQI7TEGXe8wn08YcoXY-AfaqqmATFYnXjOlHSPaCMIhWS91-whAhwoDqIoHiXpdhg7KxO9NQFP848VeOXn8hdD2bNuoXFAWvq7M_4nNOMmkVBL69kBLDdBGgfS5Xy8Lls/s320/DiamondVictorianLadyClose.jpg" width="295" /></a></div>
<br />
Now, tell me your opinion on this-- and I haven't done any research to confirm it-- but doesn't the girl on this sheet music below look like the same girl from the diamond-shaped photo? Reine Davies seems to be the name. I need to do some investigating and find out who she was.<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhHn8B0X3hLvuZNH2s0omLtNaMh7W4lhp3bfZzJAW5Jtq8KZna6glGXtjmln77pXQrubWThwHegdiLqPmnzo0PsUo8CyvxgliOnr6H0cA6bo3nXWolgyNr0nXsaCAAryC-QGYaHLjIFkWQ/s1600/ReinieDaviesMeetTonightDreamlandSheetMusic.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhHn8B0X3hLvuZNH2s0omLtNaMh7W4lhp3bfZzJAW5Jtq8KZna6glGXtjmln77pXQrubWThwHegdiLqPmnzo0PsUo8CyvxgliOnr6H0cA6bo3nXWolgyNr0nXsaCAAryC-QGYaHLjIFkWQ/s320/ReinieDaviesMeetTonightDreamlandSheetMusic.jpg" width="238" /></a></div>
<br />
I get a chuckle how much of the sheet music in my bedroom is now sleep or dream-related. This is the far right wall.<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEimZ8_p8jNzMWg0tO68uLR4NeDnC33niuNMMURy02jwytl0RViyV0WuNcE1QlSA1_HK5Rgh2GIm6BMryjo3O_VxceMPte4MjwfeFjkKlusgVvh_qB4Q61IhUtdhK59kWgbRaOOTv3EmYkw/s1600/WallNouveauFigureheadSheetMusic.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEimZ8_p8jNzMWg0tO68uLR4NeDnC33niuNMMURy02jwytl0RViyV0WuNcE1QlSA1_HK5Rgh2GIm6BMryjo3O_VxceMPte4MjwfeFjkKlusgVvh_qB4Q61IhUtdhK59kWgbRaOOTv3EmYkw/s320/WallNouveauFigureheadSheetMusic.jpg" width="238" /></a></div>
<br />
This is a little blurry, too-- sorry 'bout that-- but I thought you folks would appreciate the nice color combo between the wall, the purple and orange bedding and the large art deco print above the headboard.<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjvGoPOWk60RNXBbEZ5Jwq3fYpCNRS9I956MeRNnQNqt2GCHKWyyaXdWKOk7O4rugRmFnhfTObLp5TNKibLw2YJ5HPKePz_KLZRrknwowcgmdkxj2ymtNfAvNUBCehgbToncC1hS8L3X0I/s1600/BedHeadboardArtDecoPrint.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjvGoPOWk60RNXBbEZ5Jwq3fYpCNRS9I956MeRNnQNqt2GCHKWyyaXdWKOk7O4rugRmFnhfTObLp5TNKibLw2YJ5HPKePz_KLZRrknwowcgmdkxj2ymtNfAvNUBCehgbToncC1hS8L3X0I/s320/BedHeadboardArtDecoPrint.jpg" width="238" /></a></div>
<br />
Lastly, this is my side table. The kitschy plaster lamp there was $6 at Goodwill, and I suspect it came from around the 40s, but I'm not sure. It's one of my favorites.<br />

<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
So, this is what I've been up to lately. This and trying to write my second book. It's been keeping me busy!</div>

My cat Alice, who fancies herself the congenial hostess of my house, ran right to the door to greet them as they were propping open the front door.</div><div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br /></div><div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">I grabbed Alice to put in a safe room, and planned to go back for Harry. He had run under my dining room table, (his favorite hiding place), as he's initially a bit shy and sees no need to steal Alice's social thunder.</div><div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br /></div><div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">Well, the deliverymen had the curio cabinet in the house lickety-split, before I even returned from closing Alice in. I signed for the thing, and away they went.</div><div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br /></div><div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">That's about the time Scoobie and I discovered Harry was gone.</div><div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br /></div><div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">He was no longer under the dining room table. </div><div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br /></div><div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">He wasn't under the beds. </div><div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br /></div><div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">He wasn't hiding under or behind sofas, hadn't gotten into cabinets, and wasn't in the kitchen.</div><div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br /></div><div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">He didn't come when his name was called-- unusual! He didn't not apparate when food was poured or tasty treats rattled.</div><div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br /></div><div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">No one had seen him make his grand exit, but a second search of the house, calling his name and rattling those treats, well, it seemed to indicate the very worst.</div><div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br /></div><div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">Harry had pulled a Houdini!</div><div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br /></div><div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">Now, by this time I admit, I was freaking out. Harry has never been an outside cat and I adopted him when he was a teeny kitten. With the many dogs and stray cats and speeding cars in the neighborhood, I had every horrible vision that there was coursing through my mind.</div><div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br /></div><div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">Scoobie and I went on a cat-hunt.</div><div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br /></div><div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">Around and around the neighborhood we walked, calling for Harry and rattling the beloved treats. We asked neighbors. We checked backyards. Harry was nowhere to be found.</div><div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br /></div><div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">So we returned to the house. Alice was there waiting and pacing by the door, and I resigned myself to calling all the local animal agencies to let them know Harry was missing. It was hard to even imagine my buddy-- the goofy little cat who fetches and chases his own tail and can't let me sit in a chair without being in my lap--might no longer be such an integral part of daily life. </div><div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br /></div><div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">Part of me began to rather irrationally wish I didn't even have the curio cabinet, if it was going to cost me one of my great furred friends.</div><div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br /></div><div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">Two long hours had passed by now, and I was sitting in the living room trying to post Lost ads on some pet websites--thoughts of mac and cheese well-forgotten-- when out of the corner of my eye...</div><div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br /></div><div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">...The pillow on the windowseat moved. </div><div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjZTSNAxqm9Ec9GrTurJwNgc5KcU1lIW4zlh2PHqtTWoYW2IVafnPUBMwp4F9_0ezbZVeGofmXVXuUfWm8xPcagGveAnTmD72UhRE9sCzL9-BSSDG9GMZb0FtsVU4-XzjTX5zh3sUMi34k/s1600/CurioCabinetStoryPillow.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjZTSNAxqm9Ec9GrTurJwNgc5KcU1lIW4zlh2PHqtTWoYW2IVafnPUBMwp4F9_0ezbZVeGofmXVXuUfWm8xPcagGveAnTmD72UhRE9sCzL9-BSSDG9GMZb0FtsVU4-XzjTX5zh3sUMi34k/s320/CurioCabinetStoryPillow.jpg" width="238" /></a></div><div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br /></div><div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">I honestly thought I was seeing things. I think I might have even asked Scoobie, as a more reliable witness. Yes, yes, she saw, too. We paused, waited. </div><div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br /></div><div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">The pillow moved again.</div><div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br /></div><div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">I seized the pillow, and like a flash emerged Harry... zipping upstairs and out of view. It took me a moment to even realize I'd truly seen him and this wasn't all just wishful thinking for a happier, yet less likely resolution. </div><div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br /></div><div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">But Harry had apparently gotten scared by the truck noise and the large moving men and somehow found his way from under the dining table, unseen by any, to the livingroom and was hiding so long, he fell asleep. He never heard me calling. </div><div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br /></div><div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">So Harry is home now, though he never really left. He got hugs and a little extra kibble and me, well, I felt like I needed to be shot with a tranq gun before the day was through. :)</div><div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br /></div><div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">I'm enjoying the curio cabinet a lot more now. There's probably some great line out there about curio-sity and the cat, but I don't think I'm quite ready to try to find it yet. :)</div><div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br /></div><div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">I hope you all have a great weekend-- and for my pet-adopting friends, that all your fuzzy and feathered buddies stay safe. </div>Jenn Thorsonhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12899242535971792424noreply@blogger.com9tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5064894231149440617.post-76273971523158177232012-02-24T05:34:00.000-08:002012-02-24T05:34:06.365-08:00Treasure Box Wednesday: A Little Shine in the Thrifted Finds<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I got a chance to go on a little thrifting expedition with my shopping buddy, Scoobie, last weekend and I wanted to share with you my shiny (literally) new goodies. The first was this Kathy Van Zeeland purse I got for six bucks at the Red, White and Blue in Bellevue. With its mint green color and pearl finish, I think it will be really nice for spring.</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I'm not much of a shoe girl, but handbags somehow really speak to me.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The other item I got was this large, Westmoreland/Smith glass carnival basket from the McKnight Road Goodwill. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiEPPcCxHDLYRH4LJqVuN6xNl7vvRuggEx_oRei1rYtz7cI-nLUEE9nfN1Ds5JxQAtXobHgaZja-WAbeBetXmR26IS47gD8QKk2GeVUVmm2cuCpN-fts3DMNvkRTm4kgjDaFeWS4LbQKRc/s1600/WestmorelandSmithCarnivalGlassbasket.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="294" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiEPPcCxHDLYRH4LJqVuN6xNl7vvRuggEx_oRei1rYtz7cI-nLUEE9nfN1Ds5JxQAtXobHgaZja-WAbeBetXmR26IS47gD8QKk2GeVUVmm2cuCpN-fts3DMNvkRTm4kgjDaFeWS4LbQKRc/s320/WestmorelandSmithCarnivalGlassbasket.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
It's one of those things that leapt right out at me, and I had a feeling due to the busyness of the store, that I was absolutely the only one there who was going to get excited about it. I know carnival glass isn't for everyone--which in this case was to my advantage!<br />
<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Hello, folks! It's been a while since I've had some thrifted goodies to share with you, but I think you'll enjoy seeing the latest. It's sort of a mixed bag, but I think the diversity of items you can find at thrift stores, in flea markets and at antique malls is part of what makes the quest fun. The first thing I have to share is this cute needlework sleeping cat pillowcase I found at the Salvation Army for $0.79. I don't know if this was machine done or someone's project (I'm not patient enough to do needlework myself so am not familiar with how you tell) but I thought it was fun.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjQ-X0ugsFxVaKcihRush2ae5iYj8fCGyvGBd-qJkXj4v6EJTeTiLE8fpqxZeHlMFOwPohJ4u2c368K7xR8sLvI836BKXS9CnjLgT0f5Wq3eLxeViyBOoNlLvBRL3NIrdZN5FZzIlzGBKQ/s1600/TBCatNeedlepointClose.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjQ-X0ugsFxVaKcihRush2ae5iYj8fCGyvGBd-qJkXj4v6EJTeTiLE8fpqxZeHlMFOwPohJ4u2c368K7xR8sLvI836BKXS9CnjLgT0f5Wq3eLxeViyBOoNlLvBRL3NIrdZN5FZzIlzGBKQ/s320/TBCatNeedlepointClose.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
And it reminded me a little of someone at home. Someone who did not need any coaxing to pose with her likeness...</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjO0tMDglCVvUknpdIHov2YcrkrD_cZxWnMl1yl3imMN-930Fp0A_l2SE0DsqKd5RZFFzBoNoDRYkXKONkZts92Pl9hZiZcQkiQhvkmYnonb8__f7IuBaZ4QN7oOXoxBBqaanCOQGoXFaM/s1600/TBAliceandWhiteCatNeedlepoint.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjO0tMDglCVvUknpdIHov2YcrkrD_cZxWnMl1yl3imMN-930Fp0A_l2SE0DsqKd5RZFFzBoNoDRYkXKONkZts92Pl9hZiZcQkiQhvkmYnonb8__f7IuBaZ4QN7oOXoxBBqaanCOQGoXFaM/s320/TBAliceandWhiteCatNeedlepoint.jpg" style="cursor: move;" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The next thing I found was this 70s carnival glass candy dish at the Goodwill outlet in North Versailles, PA. It's dusty, but don't let the dirt fool you. It's in surprisingly good condition considering it was hanging out in one of the outlet's large, mish-mashed bins.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgZHWlxO8mssYF1y1Up0CsPgf_VyU1-hD2a6gKV9caNPGUwHNmj2NBfhSMoooht_mzs1MBXSGmjMWmMwYfOE3zhv1rRETXq-CSFKbMDOFW5Ixoetji7wLEDWQuS-hkPZ3SsECT7tU38bvE/s1600/TB70sCarnivalGlassCandyDish.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="312" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgZHWlxO8mssYF1y1Up0CsPgf_VyU1-hD2a6gKV9caNPGUwHNmj2NBfhSMoooht_mzs1MBXSGmjMWmMwYfOE3zhv1rRETXq-CSFKbMDOFW5Ixoetji7wLEDWQuS-hkPZ3SsECT7tU38bvE/s320/TB70sCarnivalGlassCandyDish.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
And last, I got this pretty, slightly shabby transferware tray. It's a bit uneven around the edges with wear and tear, but it suits the colors of my diningroom and really has a nice Victorian feel.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhgRqDYTVHrbNrMhARXIi9V0Fs5re6xn_YauvT5N5SqDFZUOWq0bxRdYnUr9vD7vibLFOwSi9ESlD5oiZevk9s4-qvWv5K7pyBx5Iwy6qv63FmBSHSWuI0Y9zzu9WwcEk3RFMQMoZBjcFg/s1600/TBSmallRosesTray.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="208" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhgRqDYTVHrbNrMhARXIi9V0Fs5re6xn_YauvT5N5SqDFZUOWq0bxRdYnUr9vD7vibLFOwSi9ESlD5oiZevk9s4-qvWv5K7pyBx5Iwy6qv63FmBSHSWuI0Y9zzu9WwcEk3RFMQMoZBjcFg/s320/TBSmallRosesTray.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
So, that's this Treasure Box Thursday! Hopefully as spring comes and I'm spending less time winding up my Dad's estate (you wouldn't BELIEVE what a time-consumer that is-- or maybe you've been through it and you would!), I will be able to offer more fun blog posts to you all. I know it's been spotty lately between that and my trying to write my second book.<br />
<br />
Cloning-- the answer to my multi-tasking might be making myself a clone. :) What do you think?<br />
<br />
Have a great rest of your week!<br />

<br />
Happy New Year to you, my virtual thrifting and antiquing buddies! Here's to an exciting year ahead for fun finds and creative collecting.<br />
<br />
While I haven't been doing a whole lot of secondhand shopping lately due to holiday visiting and drafting the follow-up novel to my humorous sci-fi book, <i><a href="http://www.amazon.com/There-Goes-Galaxy-Jenn-Thorson/dp/0983804508/" target="_blank">There Goes the Galaxy</a></i>, I did have a little adventure this past weekend.<br />
<br />
My bud Scoobie and I went an hour or so westward to the Fiesta outlet in West Virginia, to Pottery City in East Liverpool, Ohio and then north, to Columbiana, Ohio. It was at an antique mall at our last stop where I found my newest curiosity, this art nouveau-ish wall pocket marked Roseville...<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiVMlYeEaWEh6vAm0PgQl4T8NUt6gAIUzMs78c-ijqe2LV8m6dFkpcND5zAdUEZhHUZTXqe10wNUiZAoTZ3nsUGb8RAA_LsCTIFL0GFuD9LjAN9aT0oRpBEo-wN-AaO8AI-mzEHeqIppx8/s1600/Rosevillewallpocket2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiVMlYeEaWEh6vAm0PgQl4T8NUt6gAIUzMs78c-ijqe2LV8m6dFkpcND5zAdUEZhHUZTXqe10wNUiZAoTZ3nsUGb8RAA_LsCTIFL0GFuD9LjAN9aT0oRpBEo-wN-AaO8AI-mzEHeqIppx8/s320/Rosevillewallpocket2.jpg" width="293" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Now, I'm not entirely convinced this can be real Roseville pottery. Maybe some of you out there might have a better idea about it-- and I'd appreciate anything you could share. I don't own any Roseville collecting books (yet) because it's always been so pricey, I never really had a hope of finding a piece in a price range I'd feel comfortable with. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
But the style certainly looks right. And there's a marking on the back, though I know with fakes that doesn't always mean anything...</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh9ko5SX_X1ZeeyFcaR1_5FCtXT9sJTTws7qsuFwn9i8opmSIEQV9JOhFQ-Zv3dK7IOS0CD9yi1j74jcNJVdRRoWNNys4GpYMQWfU1VWgrfNxeDSL-5qWyGnD8hZPVAYGD8F7-xN0Q97NY/s1600/RosevilleNameonBackWallPocket.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh9ko5SX_X1ZeeyFcaR1_5FCtXT9sJTTws7qsuFwn9i8opmSIEQV9JOhFQ-Zv3dK7IOS0CD9yi1j74jcNJVdRRoWNNys4GpYMQWfU1VWgrfNxeDSL-5qWyGnD8hZPVAYGD8F7-xN0Q97NY/s320/RosevilleNameonBackWallPocket.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
Even if it is a fake, I only paid... wait for it... $12.50. So if it is a replica piece, it will look just as pretty on the wall in my diningroom, and I won't feel like it was a gigantic loss.<br />
<br />
Anyway, I'll be interested to hear what you folks think!<br />
<br />
Have you come across any fascinating finds this year? And if so, what's tickled your fancy?<br />
<br />
Onward, to more thrifty 2012 treasures!<br />

I wanted to wish you all a happy holiday season, no matter what you may be celebrating right now. <div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
TJ's a whiz with the watercolors. And her illustrations, which appear on everything from cards to buttons to children's clothing (and soon, a childrens' book!) are always happy, whimsical fantasy creations, like these smiling cupcakes that appear on the inside of my card...</div>

<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
Hiya, folks! I'm sorry, I haven't been out hitting the thrift stores this week; rather, I've been working on my novel's sequel during my lunch break and then doing Christmas wrapping in the evenings. (I cannot believe I'm just about done. This is super-early for me and the lack of panic I get to enjoy is almost unsettling!)<br />
<br />
Anyway, I don't like to leave you good folks empty-handed. And I thought you all would get a kick out of the post today on my humor blog,<i> Of Cabbages and Kings,</i> detailing a rather unexpectedly funny series of phone messages I've been receiving on my answering machine these past weeks from some persistent strangers.<br />
<br />
The post is called, "Orange-Ray Junior, Where You At?" <a href="http://www.cabbagesnkings.net/2011/12/orange-ray-junior-where-you-at.html" target="_blank">Just click here to check it out.</a><br />
<br />
As an aside, how is everyone's December going so far?<br />
<br />
Wishing you much health and joy,<br />

<br />
The thrift store and a New Jersey antique mall helped me start the gifting season right this year, and I thought I would share a few of those items with you today.<br />
<br />
It all began with this <i>Gone With the Wind </i>plate I found at a Pittsburgh Goodwill a few weeks ago. It's for this nice lady I know who adores the film and has been collecting <i>Gone with the Wind</i> items like dolls and figurines. I thought the plate would be perfect.<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Little did I expect that when I went antiquing over Thanksgiving back home in New Jersey with my friend Josette that we would stumble upon this second <i>Gone With the Wind</i> plate featuring Scarlett O'Hara in her green drapery dress. (Apologies to Mr. Gable for that light reflection on his face. We're not as advanced an operation here at <i>The Thrift Shop Romantic</i> as 1930s Hollywood was, I'm afraid. :)</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Then, would you believe it, when we popped into yet another antique mall, Josette happened to spy this plate featuring <i>Gone With the Wind's</i> Melanie. They're all from the same series.</div>

<br />
So it looks like the Belles will be ringing out this holiday season. Southern Belles, that is.<br />
<br />
Lastly, another family friend is passionate about woodworking, and the one thing he jokes about receiving every Christmas is, "No tools?" He loves older tools with character-- wooden handles and made by manufacturers like Yankee or Craftsman/Sears. Well, he is going to be one happy man with these two beauties I picked up at the same mall I got one of the plates!...<br />

<br />
He may just cuddle the drill all holiday long and tuck it beside his pillow like a Red Ryder BB Gun. You never know.<br />
<br />
So that's the Treasure Box for this week. Do any of you choose resale items for your gift giving? <br />
Hello, my dear friends! I know it's been a long time, and I'm sorry that I've been out of touch. I haven't forgotten about you all. And to make my neglect up to you, I have a very photo-filled <i>Treasure Box Wednesday</i> post to share, overflowing with vintage goodness.<br />
<br />
Many of these more recent treasures came from the Pottery City antique mall in East Liverpool, Ohio.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjo1eZxiZdlGDhKEcMNQbioe6RM4eyMtRhZxse28rQNBRithIyb1FZ-oknwuUBXvdImQLjP15vjHuVwb9tc4CiEbUtXjv-AxLTh6pYtg-GTIGcwToA0U7-0_kRa19CEuPy7zCYgrPmV6Gg/s1600/DecoFiestaTumblerGlasses.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjo1eZxiZdlGDhKEcMNQbioe6RM4eyMtRhZxse28rQNBRithIyb1FZ-oknwuUBXvdImQLjP15vjHuVwb9tc4CiEbUtXjv-AxLTh6pYtg-GTIGcwToA0U7-0_kRa19CEuPy7zCYgrPmV6Gg/s320/DecoFiestaTumblerGlasses.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
I think we'll start with these cheerful Fiestaware tumblers I found, brandishing the familiar art deco ridges that Fiesta is known for. I had found some short glasses a year or so back that were very similar to these, but I didn't know they'd made these taller glasses. Perfect for any sort of icy beverage! And they look so cute with my vintage polka dotted glasses.<br />
<br />
Then there were these pair of hand-painted and signed rose lamps...<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhEN3uFiV8FP1BEZd5IUbrD-fy4M8gtvcdxJp322Cbs0GZMr1B1Kr1E2V6M0z4yiZVV0GwMJbyDgmLe67LpSpCrO3QzhhOpwc0IceW62VAN1Wx4_Qf25wtYnog3MNvEIj4YB7Pm8PEYPB0/s1600/HandpaintedLampVintageRosesBowls.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhEN3uFiV8FP1BEZd5IUbrD-fy4M8gtvcdxJp322Cbs0GZMr1B1Kr1E2V6M0z4yiZVV0GwMJbyDgmLe67LpSpCrO3QzhhOpwc0IceW62VAN1Wx4_Qf25wtYnog3MNvEIj4YB7Pm8PEYPB0/s320/HandpaintedLampVintageRosesBowls.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
They may look a bit familiar to regular readers. I had, in fact, one of these already which I had bought from the Red White and Blue thrift store when there was a store across the street from Kennywood Amusement Park. (Yes, that's how long ago it was!) I had seen it across a crowded room, seized it immediately, and for the past ten years or so, it has been the lamp to which all other vintage lamps in my life have aspired. I had always hoped to find a second one to put on the other side of the Victorian fainting sofa in my dining room. So recently I got my chance...<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjPGv6UyuYZ1AyHSWjCCO1ahkIA5PEefAfZqhdf5Vqbz8pXoNeCApKCcd5S2TXnQMDsxS6A_fiFX4UarYlQWvY2UrXlWsmIkMvrsTkyoVPvsEFGUVIFhdwCMbg_hnewLixURAfNN3oLfBs/s1600/HandpaintedVintageLampRoses.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjPGv6UyuYZ1AyHSWjCCO1ahkIA5PEefAfZqhdf5Vqbz8pXoNeCApKCcd5S2TXnQMDsxS6A_fiFX4UarYlQWvY2UrXlWsmIkMvrsTkyoVPvsEFGUVIFhdwCMbg_hnewLixURAfNN3oLfBs/s320/HandpaintedVintageLampRoses.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
But as you may know, in my house, it is a case of No Good Lamp Left Behind. So the one that had originally been in the diningroom, which has a slightly different base and a different sort of shade, is now living happily and dramatically on top of the wardrobe closet in my bedroom. It goes really well with the little rose painting I have up there.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjx_pQNsPf1jQLgKWU_gpcSWAginjKGeDF1ncbDA61FNKiKmCQPqrgnkXAC-6LMhPltPi_exK7VHW-s5oqmT8hxroXhLHxh_77ShGXkCNoJ0-AeRG2af6zOKbG7s-KUiJUMmPR6Op2TYj4/s1600/TheThirdVintageLampWardrobeRoses.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjx_pQNsPf1jQLgKWU_gpcSWAginjKGeDF1ncbDA61FNKiKmCQPqrgnkXAC-6LMhPltPi_exK7VHW-s5oqmT8hxroXhLHxh_77ShGXkCNoJ0-AeRG2af6zOKbG7s-KUiJUMmPR6Op2TYj4/s320/TheThirdVintageLampWardrobeRoses.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
Other favorite goodies of recent weeks include these wonderful little pink lidded Tupperware spice containers. They've been ideal for storing bagged spices and chicken seasoning I bought in bulk in Western Pennsylvania's Amish area...<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEixC7icADJBXi-EkBNjBcYwT_037tW41TeXPzY20f9Hlk4eGcGOT-Olyxzq5TYAbDt4LU88wPjEEs39fuHzXoOX69uVN_r6EkTMEQ1kAP9brIAoPDkbTIguroNhoDHzsYFLQFJ2OjMZz64/s1600/PinkTupperwareSpiceContainers.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEixC7icADJBXi-EkBNjBcYwT_037tW41TeXPzY20f9Hlk4eGcGOT-Olyxzq5TYAbDt4LU88wPjEEs39fuHzXoOX69uVN_r6EkTMEQ1kAP9brIAoPDkbTIguroNhoDHzsYFLQFJ2OjMZz64/s320/PinkTupperwareSpiceContainers.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
And at the Goodwill thrift store in North Versailles, I got these very useful red and pink Tupperware storage canisters. I can use them for cat food, coffee, breadcrumbs and brown sugar. I've never seen them in red before; usually the ones I come across are in 70s harvest colors, so this was pretty exciting for me.<br />
<br />

So that's this week's <i>Treasure Box Wednesday</i>. Next week I will share with you some vintage items I picked up for Christmas presents. Whee!<br />
<br />
I hope Turkey Day was kind to you all, and that you have a great week.Jenn Thorsonhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12899242535971792424noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5064894231149440617.post-68589043962716832892011-11-02T09:25:00.001-07:002011-11-02T09:44:40.774-07:00Treasure Box Wednesday: May the Thrift Be With You<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgo5E129vSHvHADkbrBJRbP3Pt8ursCUjK6RyaW6pII8LntHtfoX6NSBrHUzI_WvMly5aBRF2TFAy06mbPg9gq3DZ6V8JYHWbAsyxLdlyygPtgKKmiAArZ-s681hk7uh1Dd-PN-jtRRRmc/s1600/70sStarWarsDolls.jpg" onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 299px; height: 400px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgo5E129vSHvHADkbrBJRbP3Pt8ursCUjK6RyaW6pII8LntHtfoX6NSBrHUzI_WvMly5aBRF2TFAy06mbPg9gq3DZ6V8JYHWbAsyxLdlyygPtgKKmiAArZ-s681hk7uh1Dd-PN-jtRRRmc/s400/70sStarWarsDolls.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5670436703965108050" /></a>Sorry for the e-silence last week. I had a record number of blog posts I had to write for a client for my day job (30, if you can believe that!) and my brain was too broken by Friday to even consider sitting down and speaking coherently to you good people.<div><br /></div><div>But it wasn't because I didn't have any secondhand goodies to share with you. In fact, you'll probably get a chuckle from one purchase because, as wholly impractical as it is, it made me very happy-- a set of four Star Wars dolls from the 70s, which were exactly like the ones I used to play with at a friend's house when I was but a wee lass...<br /><div><br /></div><div><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgo5E129vSHvHADkbrBJRbP3Pt8ursCUjK6RyaW6pII8LntHtfoX6NSBrHUzI_WvMly5aBRF2TFAy06mbPg9gq3DZ6V8JYHWbAsyxLdlyygPtgKKmiAArZ-s681hk7uh1Dd-PN-jtRRRmc/s1600/70sStarWarsDolls.jpg" onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}"><img src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgo5E129vSHvHADkbrBJRbP3Pt8ursCUjK6RyaW6pII8LntHtfoX6NSBrHUzI_WvMly5aBRF2TFAy06mbPg9gq3DZ6V8JYHWbAsyxLdlyygPtgKKmiAArZ-s681hk7uh1Dd-PN-jtRRRmc/s400/70sStarWarsDolls.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5670436703965108050" style="display: block; margin-top: 0px; margin-right: auto; margin-bottom: 10px; margin-left: auto; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 299px; height: 400px; " /></a></div><div>Inside this copy paper box lid was wrapped Luke, Leia, Chewbacca and Darth Vader. <a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiHIc7vxLDWK0kTlE59DIWJu6sO_SMnmhsHest330SXkRHz4J5Os4XoC5VFWquftsSK5vRrIhXBKHvxcF_qXEqT4d9-mh0JmS-6PxQet3h6hTRL7W2mfGJinxrz945gwD2Q00FVc7iueVQ/s1600/BuzzardinWindySky.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiHIc7vxLDWK0kTlE59DIWJu6sO_SMnmhsHest330SXkRHz4J5Os4XoC5VFWquftsSK5vRrIhXBKHvxcF_qXEqT4d9-mh0JmS-6PxQet3h6hTRL7W2mfGJinxrz945gwD2Q00FVc7iueVQ/s320/BuzzardinWindySky.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
So, I haven't really been hitting the thrift stores lately; time has been at a premium, and I just haven't needed anything. This weekend I am, however, headed down Route 30 for an antiquing/thrifting adventure with some friends, which should present the perfect opportunity to share new goodies with you all for next week's post. But <i>today's</i> post is about a treasure of a <i>different kind </i>I thought you all would appreciate.<br />
<br />
Last week I was at the grocery store and there was an elderly lady in front of me with a number of bags of groceries. Initially, I wasn't paying it much mind, but soon it became clear there was something wrong with the debit card she was using, which I later learned was for foodstamps.<br />
<br />
She swiped it a few times, then the cashier came to help her, and it was sounding like there was some sort of error with the account.<br />
<br />
Well, the guy behind me in line realized the truth of the matter before I did. Apparently, because of the Columbus Day holiday, her new foodstamps money didn't make it into the account when it usually was there. And she was short about $30.<br />
<br />
But this man, this complete stranger, diagnosed the issue in seconds and was there at her side like Superman swooping in to pay for the rest of this elderly lady's groceries.<br />
<br />
She was astonished, hugging and smooching him up. I got all misty but I managed to tell the man what a lovely thing he'd done for her. He brushed it all off politely.<br />
<br />
It got me thinking how one kind act like that appears like a shining ray of hope that everything isn't all anger and a lack of consideration for one's fellow man... or somebody's grandma.<br />
<br />
<b>Oh-- and one more thing before we go for today:</b> I thought some of you reading fans out there might enjoy this <b>interview that Karen Wodke, a Yahoo correspondent, had done with me</b> regarding the recent launch of my novel, <i>There Goes the Galaxy</i>. We talk about inspiring writers, family support, the love of reading and more. It was a really fun experience! <a href="http://www.associatedcontent.com/article/8662091/an_interview_with_author_jenn_thorson.html?cat=38">Click here to check that out.</a><br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Admittedly I've been a busy bee lately, but I haven't let it keep me from my appointed thrifty rounds. But before we get into the treasures for this week, I wanted to thank everyone who participated in my <b><i>There Goes the Galaxy</i> book giveaway last week.</b></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<b>Folks can see the winners</b> here: <a href="http://www.cabbagesnkings.net/2011/09/cabbages-there-goes-galaxy-book.html">http://www.cabbagesnkings.net/2011/09/cabbages-there-goes-galaxy-book.html</a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<b>And if you're still interested in getting your hands on a copy of the book</b> in either paperback or ebook version, you can do that here: <a href="http://www.amazon.com/There-Goes-Galaxy-Jenn-Thorson/dp/0983804508">http://www.amazon.com/There-Goes-Galaxy-Jenn-Thorson/dp/0983804508</a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Okay-- that done, on to the thrifty fun! My first purchase of the week was this excellent little vintage Pyrex refrigerator container in blue... for one whopping buck.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEioBHTiu2IDtsY5Zo-xOymrs8nAWabtceo_6E5XlJ_kUGhxUdu335TSFhoNrbaEWpINkmm4oLrgbwLAY8VMGAF1pisTODnZlYTxrYE0lYO_PACaKCjOEUVZ2ATk1N0DA1sC5jwwCt-LqGg/s1600/PyrexRefrigeratorDish.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="242" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEioBHTiu2IDtsY5Zo-xOymrs8nAWabtceo_6E5XlJ_kUGhxUdu335TSFhoNrbaEWpINkmm4oLrgbwLAY8VMGAF1pisTODnZlYTxrYE0lYO_PACaKCjOEUVZ2ATk1N0DA1sC5jwwCt-LqGg/s320/PyrexRefrigeratorDish.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
But my second and favorite find of the week was actually spotted by my shopping buddy Scoobie, who recognized these early 1900s cast iron curtain tie backs....</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiALcTK842UpL2iLySTcL3fHyc_MPU6meCIn8fq87woMD8DOJTCUQcYAm_hP-05O9acDPoWQ3mXB-mi_wAeWbEuQgw2vi75aN2nfJHFn4xJdMDVGv5XjlgGCWYsGAwy9dv4OwLnNcbkq8E/s1600/VictorianCurtainTieBacks.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="170" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiALcTK842UpL2iLySTcL3fHyc_MPU6meCIn8fq87woMD8DOJTCUQcYAm_hP-05O9acDPoWQ3mXB-mi_wAeWbEuQgw2vi75aN2nfJHFn4xJdMDVGv5XjlgGCWYsGAwy9dv4OwLnNcbkq8E/s320/VictorianCurtainTieBacks.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
...And recognized them as similar to these terrific curtain rods from the same era she had gotten me...<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhBOCCVW3p-twd4jbF6REb5PA_wUwQT4HKHSlYeQu48vl31C_rD_12xjQDm1OqFmCTahANbZBK26GSJ_oMskllMaK4uIcUn3L288MIhnaAYkwoxPlmn4CXfJn1wrf0gHHjRe-21w09JEjo/s1600/VictorianCurtainRods.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="164" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhBOCCVW3p-twd4jbF6REb5PA_wUwQT4HKHSlYeQu48vl31C_rD_12xjQDm1OqFmCTahANbZBK26GSJ_oMskllMaK4uIcUn3L288MIhnaAYkwoxPlmn4CXfJn1wrf0gHHjRe-21w09JEjo/s320/VictorianCurtainRods.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
Now, I haven't put them up yet because I still need a bracket to fix them to above my pocket doors. But I had a little brainstorm the other day I think I might try; I'm wondering if they might work, if I slipped the end peg into one or two large eye screws? What do you folks think? (You can see the end of one of them on the far left hand side of the photo.)<br />
<br />
I haven't been able to find vintage hardware that would work with them. But I am open to ideas. They're lovely and will really work perfectly in my red and green arts-and-crafts influenced livingroom.<br />
<br />
Anyway, that's this week's Treasure Box coming to a close. Hope this week is treating you well so far!Jenn Thorsonhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12899242535971792424noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5064894231149440617.post-61329625876493686212011-09-21T05:16:00.001-07:002011-09-21T05:29:28.152-07:00Treasure Box Wednesday: Lucky and Unlucky Breaks<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj1yB5db_b32KxQ-su792_kzLLAwk_W6ZyhQeSiyYtnhgU7zkmfXPDZci6UDY0m4KCcggAM3GtbZJNQCkZjyb0dKQu8S4R5PoBK8G1RPSanosh11Uazbh8zhthT_eUBXFwW3KJ1-6pbbCg/s1600/MantleHullVintageLampsShabby.jpg" onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 283px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj1yB5db_b32KxQ-su792_kzLLAwk_W6ZyhQeSiyYtnhgU7zkmfXPDZci6UDY0m4KCcggAM3GtbZJNQCkZjyb0dKQu8S4R5PoBK8G1RPSanosh11Uazbh8zhthT_eUBXFwW3KJ1-6pbbCg/s400/MantleHullVintageLampsShabby.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5654786048830312674" /></a>I have some pastel pretties to share with you this week, but first, I wanted to mention I'm doing a giveaway on my humor blog, Of Cabbages and Kings, where participants have a chance to receive one of two free copies of my new humorous space fantasy novel, <i>There Goes the Galaxy</i>. I know that kind of reading isn't everybody's bag here, but I also know it is for a few of my readers. Plus, it's free. We all like free. It doesn't get more thrifty than free. So I figured I'd mention it. You can check out the <a href="http://www.cabbagesnkings.net/2011/09/there-goes-galaxy-book-giveaway.html"><i>There Goes the Galaxy </i></a><a href="http://www.cabbagesnkings.net/2011/09/there-goes-galaxy-book-giveaway.html">giveaway fun by clicking here.</a><div><br /></div><div>Okay, that said, back to the order of business! Sooooo, I will be searching for a boring vintage lamp with a similar base I can take apart and put on the vase of this one.</div><div><br /></div><div>This lamp vase is gorgeous-- pale green with handpainted roses, so it's entirely worth the effort. One of my favorites is this figurine from Franklin Porcelain called Sophia, which I found at the Red, White and Blue in Bellevue.<br /><br />You can see a close up on this dramatic lady here:<br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiL6QVPQ6qaXcUesm50Cy48U3-H7Kc5EjvTe_mIEiE02HJHCcQAhsgR995F1o5GPVHIshZkAjWm_o2kqcBYVSopfg-10AzNERIlpsdLcrWOhEAN7aFjKAvWTU1H6uzFJtBsJV-QWy7-d_o/s1600/SophiaFranklinPorcelainClose.jpg"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 300px; height: 400px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiL6QVPQ6qaXcUesm50Cy48U3-H7Kc5EjvTe_mIEiE02HJHCcQAhsgR995F1o5GPVHIshZkAjWm_o2kqcBYVSopfg-10AzNERIlpsdLcrWOhEAN7aFjKAvWTU1H6uzFJtBsJV-QWy7-d_o/s400/SophiaFranklinPorcelainClose.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5649588117556558194" border="0" /></a>I love the matte finish, and the soft colors that work so well with my lusterware rose-printed china. For those curious, this is the mark on the bottom...<br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEioxQap2Ph1fXXj_ZBOWpRWZ9SAvouTeQq5jsyvMQUUcNEL4FM3ccEFB5lvDprftp4oCx5WPOLxCj47-5V1Bun3swRGcXzpBR-cY6udXw-9CRcOvn22FdFtWDYax1w-eXrcMRWS6-knUvY/s1600/SophiaFrankinPorcelainMark.jpg"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 400px; height: 376px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEioxQap2Ph1fXXj_ZBOWpRWZ9SAvouTeQq5jsyvMQUUcNEL4FM3ccEFB5lvDprftp4oCx5WPOLxCj47-5V1Bun3swRGcXzpBR-cY6udXw-9CRcOvn22FdFtWDYax1w-eXrcMRWS6-knUvY/s400/SophiaFrankinPorcelainMark.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5649588063189506994" border="0" /></a>At the Goodwill Outlet on Route 30, I got a couple of pieces of lusterware, too. Like this little souvenir plate showing Niagara Square in Buffalo, NY...<br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEheZ0pgM3E3E9GT62bDP6T48Enk63j41e1hwaHQ0BZGv5tZ2Wfjgm4Rknp6BSJOdw9ykmqzP0N2_vGOpjuu08RkicDQY2KSTYCm2gdqM9mU4PhyphenhyphenYNaM0DGHoX5mH-lQjp5Tm8pzDxiiVCg/s1600/NiagraSquareSouvenirPlate.jpg"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 400px; height: 349px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEheZ0pgM3E3E9GT62bDP6T48Enk63j41e1hwaHQ0BZGv5tZ2Wfjgm4Rknp6BSJOdw9ykmqzP0N2_vGOpjuu08RkicDQY2KSTYCm2gdqM9mU4PhyphenhyphenYNaM0DGHoX5mH-lQjp5Tm8pzDxiiVCg/s400/NiagraSquareSouvenirPlate.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5649588006772301138" border="0" /></a>It seems to have been a giveaway piece from a store there, sort of a promo item.<br /><br />And lastly, I fund this nice luster Japanese teacup in orange and purple...<br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhG9JOsKI3w5OxJps1XXSV2CIQbl7fF_8nXFw3CD2eFWVe0HkcrdwW4FpoE1iuxBm2Q_R_l0t91rrvkDGcgA_5xYwDReo86ciMCVlynSdqTnQ7vYR9b8Kj_2vOE26TQKSWtlmostXF5w6c/s1600/LusterTeacup.jpg"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhG9JOsKI3w5OxJps1XXSV2CIQbl7fF_8nXFw3CD2eFWVe0HkcrdwW4FpoE1iuxBm2Q_R_l0t91rrvkDGcgA_5xYwDReo86ciMCVlynSdqTnQ7vYR9b8Kj_2vOE26TQKSWtlmostXF5w6c/s400/LusterTeacup.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5649587942641995298" border="0" /></a>There was an extra saucer that came with it.<br /><br />So that pours the last drop of this particular Treasure Box Wednesday. I'll be spending the rest of this week prepping the last few things for my novel's release. So while I know this won't be everyone's cup of tea here-- and yes, I <i>will</i> get to the teacups and other thrifty goodies for you good folks later in the week-- I did want to mention my humorous space fantasy novel <i>There Goes the Galaxy</i> will be out soon, and it now has a Facebook page you can "like" to find out more.<div><br /></div><div>The Facebook page is here: <a href="http://www.facebook.com/ThereGoestheGalaxy">http://www.facebook.com/ThereGoestheGalaxy</a></div><div><br /></div><div>I'll be getting the proof of the book in my hot little hands this week, which means if everything looks good, the print version of the book will be out in the next week or two. YAY!!</div><div><br /></div><div>The book will come in a Kindle version, too; though I'm learning that my storytelling abilities are far stronger than my technical ones. So that conversion is still in-process.</div><div><br /></div><div>Anyway, just wanted to loop you folks in. I've wanted to write books every since I was 11 years old and had read every Nancy Drew I could get my hands on. So this represents a huge thrill for me-- almost as exciting as a thrifted lamp. :)</div><div><br /></div><div>Wishing you all a lovely first week o' September,</div><div>Jenn</div>Jenn Thorsonhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12899242535971792424noreply@blogger.com7
