Treasure Box Wednesday: Chili Days

Because it's been so chilly lately... in a slight departure from our normal Wednesday posts, I thought it might be chili, for you folks, as well.

Chili con carne, that is! With my mom's world famous (well, okay, it will be now that I've posted this online) recipe.

So, as the winds howl and the snow flakes down, I hope you'll find warmth and comfort with a nice steaming bowl of goodness.

Mom's Chili

Ingredients
  • Ground beef (1 lb)
  • Minced onion 1/4 cup
  • Kidney beans (3 cans)
  • Crushed Italian Style tomatoes in puree (1 can)
  • Hunt's Tomato Sauce (3 cans)
  • Chili powder
  • Cumin
  • Paprika
  • Oregano
  • Basil
  • Paprika
  • Grated Parmesean/Romano Cheese

Brown the ground beef and onions in margarine. Drain on papertowels. Place the beef-onion mixture in a Crockpot or large pot on Low heat. Drain the kidney beans and add to the pot. Also add crushed tomatoes in puree, and three cans of tomato sauce. Add chili powder, cumin, paprika, oregano and basil to taste.

Cook about 6 hours, or until desired consistency.

After chili has cooked down, add grated cheese to taste.
Enjoy!

I will be making some of this myself this weekend.

Hope you all have a terrific week.

Mom's soon to be world famous recipe sounds great.
My laziness, coupled with having a Wendy's about 2 minutes away, means I haven't had home made chili in years.
Your recipe is very similar to my Mom's, I think.

Not much of a chili fan but I'm giggling over the Joan of Ark kidney beans. :)

I love recipe posts, but how can you call it chili with no chilis in it? Where are the jalepenos?

Da Old Man- Wendy's does make a good chili-- I don't blame you.

Chyna- Yes, I'm not exactly sure when St. Joan got into the canned bean market, but there ya go. I laugh at Robin Hood and King Arthur flour, as well. :)

Siteseer- Oh, the Crock pot was a great invention.

Melanie- The "chili" is from the chili powder, not chilis... My guts would be on fire if Jalepeno peppers were involved... and my dad (who feels spice is a big no-no) probably would have had to leave my mom! :)

Oops, I meant stumbled, not stumpled. I've been sitting here at the computer WAY too long.
