Treasure Box Wednesday: What's in YOUR Treasure Box?

I went antiquing over the weekend with my buddy Scoobie, and unfortunately, I have nothing really I can share with you right now because what I bought was a gift for someone.

Rather than totally ruin the surprise for the recipient, who probably would prefer to see her gift in a box at her birthday rather than spread all over the pages of this blog, I'll wait to share with you folks later.

Anyway, lately, I've been in the mode where I'm happy with my decor and so I really don't feel I NEED much myself. But there are a couple of things I look for when I go out thrifting just the same...

Y'know, those Holy Grail items that would be great to find, if I happened to run across them. Like unusual Victorian postcards... or more pieces of my Anchor Hocking moonstone dishes... or an enticing example of McCoy or Hull... well, that would be a pot of a different color.

I already had one such moment a few months ago when I found my red velvet sofa at the Salvation Army Superstore in West Mifflin.

So I open it up to you good folks...

If you could find your dream item at a thrift store, yard sale, flea market or whathaveyou... what would it be?

(Note: Treasure Boxes Filled with Unclaimed Cash are a given, and therefore not worth mentioning. :) )

Oh, and while I remember, if you didn't get to see Sunday's post where a 1960s photo shoot for fabric takes an odd turn around the bases at the ballpark, well, you can click here.

I would love to find a classic piece of 1950's office furniture. Maybe a file console that is made of blond wood and metal with a slab of marble on top. I could rock a room with that!

My Holy Grail item is a vintage Le Creuset dutch oven. Enamel. But if I could find a cast iron one WITHOUT FEET (meaning, not a camp type) I'd also be thrilled. I refuse to pay $125 for one and I am convinced that somewhere, someone is setting out a yard sale from a deceased relative and my pot of dreams is crouched on that table somewhere with a $5 sticker on it.

Corey- A lot of folks are into the mid-century modern look these days-- because of all the nice clean lines. I hope you do find your dream cabinet, and totally rock that room! :)

Shieldmaiden- Oh, I think that's probably a really doable find, if the planets align properly.

Oooh, I second the Le Creuset. Or a matched set of Pyrex polka dot bowls...
Or a pristine vintage chenille bedspread...

I agree with what Shieldmaiden96 said. Cooking in a pot that has a long cooking history makes the food taste so much better.

A beautiful Girly Armoire to paint for my daughters room or a Electra Beach Cruiser.

It's funny how everyone has that one thing (or two) that they would love to find! I search time and again for a Texas Ware Mixing Bowl (size 125) that doesn't cost $80. I refuse to pay that much for a plastic mixing bowl. Fortunately for me (or was it good planning?) I'm dating a guy with one, but his is plain blue, and I'd much rather one of the vomit colored ones. . .

That sofa is quite something, isn't it? Well done!

My holy grail? Hmmm... there are lots. A perfect piece of Chippendale (Krys-Tol in America) tableware, preferably a jug, and one I don't have - that would be exciting. An antique book of British insects with full colour plates - actually I found one of these once and paid quite a lot for it, but don't regret it for an instant.

What else? Mmm .. anything vintage and greyhound (well modelled, of course), vintage glass beads, more 'Winchester' pattern Royal Brierley claret glasses to go with the ones we have (we BROKE one, can you believe it?). I could go on for a very, very long time here!

Didn't know I was a thrifter, did ya? LOL!

Sweet Apron-- Oh, you just don't see those cute Polka dotted Pyrex pieces much! I hope you're able to uncover some. The chenille bedspreads do sometimes come up at thrift stores and fleas around my area.

Corey- I love how nostalgia and food have almost completely intertwined in our minds.

Goldilocks- Sounds like you have some very lucky little girls to have a talented mom willing to paint their armoire up for them. Best of luck in your quest!

Shelly- The "vomit" comment cracked me up. Just goes to show, color can make a difference. I'll, um, leave you to your vomit bowl adventures. :)

Jay- I didn't know you were a thrifter, no, but I DID know you had an interest in lots of different things. Sometime if you're on this side of the pond at some point, it would be great to meet up with you. I think it would be a blast.

Holy Grail? I'll go BIG with an old master painting....Gotta be one hiding out there somewhere right? *winks*lol But going small would be any antique french chandelier with LOTS of sparkley warkley prisms!!
